This is a high-density wood, with a low moisture content. The timber is heavy, extremely hard, and durable. The wood is olive brown, sometimes dark brown, and sometimes with darker streaks. Heartwood sometimes has red and amber hues.Ipe wood grain is sometimes straight-grained but more often interlocked, and in either case it is tight-grained. Very high strength in all categories and a very dense, hard, heavy, strong, tough, resilient wood. It is heavier and two- to-three times harder than Oak. Ipe blanks are difficult to work, causing a severe blunting effect on cutters and tools. It stains and polishes well. Ipe sands very well for such a tough wood and sanding alone can produce a beautiful satin finish. * Please Note: These are not pre-bored or drilled.
